Safety

While Bechedaw.com takes no responsibility for the accuracy or integrity of any postings, here are a number of tips and techniques you should keep in mind to protect yourself and your privacy online. These tips also may help you from being caught in a scam. We are committed to creating a user-friendly environment, where our users can post and reply to ads and other messages freely and without concern. This list is not exhaustive and you should not use it as a substitute for your own common sense. As always, the best protection is to use good judgment and trust your instincts.

Responding to an Ad

It is important to remember that whether you are responding to a rental ad, a job posting, or “for sale” ad, you have never met the person behind the ad before. Use caution.

  • Do not wire money, or send a check, for an apartment you have not seen to a person you have never met.
  • Do not give out personal information about yourself, such as your address, bank account number, national ID Number etc, without verifying that a job posting is legitimate.
  • Meet the seller in person in an open and public location
  • Do not go check out furniture in someone’s house alone. Bring a friend.
  • Always verify the item’s condition before payment
  • Have an expert examine the item before you buy
  • Always ask for paperwork (i.e. registration, warranty info, title, etc.) to verify the seller’s claims

Placing an Ad

It is important to safety remember that you may not know the people responding to your ad, so be careful.

  • Do not include personal information in an ad, such as your full name or address, and do not post images or content that are prohibited by our Terms of Use or Privacy Policy, like nudity or messages relating to illegal activities.
  • Talk to people on the phone before giving them information, like your address, and trust your instincts.
  • If someone is coming to check out the sofa you advertised, make sure you are not alone when they arrive.
  • If you are selling something portable but expensive, such as a DVD player or a digital camera, consider showing it to people in a coffee shop instead of your home.
  • If you are selling a car, make sure you are meeting the person somewhere public for a test drive, bring a friend.
  • Meet the buyer in person in an open and public location.

  • Be cautious when it comes to work-from-home opportunities, especially ones that do not require experience or time.
  • Do not give money to an individual claiming to be the victim of a disaster if you do not know them.
  • Do not give money to an organization if you have not heard of it.

Scams and Fraud

Please be aware of scam artists that use the internet to take advantage of services such as our online classifieds. If something sounds suspicious or too good to be true, it probably is.

  • Deal with local people you can meet in person and/or by a local phone number. This will help avoid scam artists that exploit the internet.
  • Meet the seller in person in an open and public location
  • Always be vigilant for scams (especially those claiming to be from or originating overseas)
  • Never give out financial information (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.).
  • Never wire funds (via Western Union or other wire service).
  • Watch out for fraudulent cashier’s checks and/or money orders.
  • Beware when payment is required up front or when you are asked to return money to the buyer. Example: If your item price is Tk.500 and a buyer says they will send you a check for Tk.1000 and ask you to mail them the difference – this is a scam. Do not comply and avoid this buyer.
  • Scammers will often “guarantee” a transaction – this is common in fraudulent deals.
  • Be cautious of buyers who are working for a “Client” – again deal only with people you can meet with in person or trust.
  • Prochareproshar.com is not involved in any transaction. We are not involved with shipping, payment or any other part of your transaction with a buyer or seller.
  • Use good, old fashioned common sense. Think carefully about the information you give to a buyer or seller.
  • Be a savvy Internet user and investigate your options!
